so, as some of you who have me on facebook probably already know, we finally made the decision and put down my 15 year old lab this weekend.

Boomer was old, and for three years we had contemplated putting him down as we knew he was beginning to have difficulties moving around, but every time we thought about he would manage to bounce back. He really did have a bit of cat in him, haha -- he lived through his 15 years without any serious diseases or anything threatening his health, but instead did experience numerous near-death experiences -- from being attacked by a fisher, to old age. He was a very...very old dog, and honestly I'm not as upset as I thought I would be because I knew it was coming. My mother and I have been planning this for three years, it was an inevitability.

However, I still have one other dog, and we are planning/debating/generally tossing around the idea of getting our remaining dog a companion this coming spring, since he's pretty much spent his entire life among other dogs and we think he's going to be kind of lonely all by himself. He's a very social animal, and even if Boomer wasn't exactly a playmate for him, he was company, and I think Finn appreciated that. I cannot tell you how many times I walked in on the two of them snuggled close together, or watched Finn lay down so that only one paw was touching him. x3

At any rate, I didn't make this journal to rant on about my dogs, but instead to discuss that I was thinking about commissioning a portrait of him. Just curious as to if anyone knows anyone who does this, particularly if it isn't too expensive? Would have to be realistic, and I would like to either have it done in real paint (and then mailed to my house), or I would like to purchase a print if it's digital. I'd like to do it for my mom for Christmas, but obviously it's likely that the shipped package would arrive a little late, but it would be nice to be able to see the actual image by Christmas.

Essentially my budget would be...100-150 dollars maybe? And it doesn't have to be like...photo-realistic. I want a painting, not a copy of a photo, y'know?

We're making a little...shrine for him, with all his old things and eventually an imprint of his paw that was done at the vet. Ashes are really fucking expensive did you know that?!?! fucking 200 dollars for his ashes and like 40 something for the pawprint so...yeah we decided that if we knock over a rock with the imprint of his paw in it it's much less likely require vacuuming haha.

Anyhow, if anyone could tell me their commission prices/direct me towards artists who do this kind of thing, that would be great. Trying to do some research myself but most people are asking for 300-400$ which is a little out of my budget. I don't want like...a massive painting, just a little one, probably not much bigger than a sheet of printer paper really.

...that's all, I think. :I

if I had all my paint stuff, I'd make you one for free :C

cause I love you and I know how much you loved Boomer. I have done a realistic-like picture of whisper, I wish I could show you /was for art/
